Numbers released by the communications regulator have said that there have been various cases of illegal hacking of phone systems in the first part of 2011.
The Commission for Communications Regulation (Comreg) has released an alert to all businesses and organisations after there’s been an increase in the amount of people who think their telephone exchanges have been illicitly hacked.
The statutory body, which is to blame for the regulation of the electronic communications sector including telecommunications, radiocommunications and broadcasting transmitting and the postal market, examined 22 grievances from the first half of this year and of these complaints, 21 were looked at as legitimate.
Although this is a drop in the number of issues from 25 in 2010, the news comes after the shocking phone hacking scandal at the News of the World where many editorial staff allegedly hacked the telephone systems of lost children’s parents and dead soldier’s relatives.
Comreg is stressing the practice is not comparable as attacks have usually took place when the areas are vacant or when telephone usage is not checked.
